Sheet-metal or tube laser cutting?

How documentation and required parameters differ for flat components and hollow sections.

Sheet-metal or tube laser cutting?

Starting geometry defines the discussion

Sheet components start from flat stock, while tubular components have a cross-section and wall. Although both may be called laser cutting, the documentation and equipment differ. The FORTZA STEEL catalogue lists Bystronic Bystar 4020 for sheet separately from Adige Lasertubi LT651 for tubes and hollow sections.

For sheet: contour, thickness and the next operations

For a flat part, provide contour, material, thickness and quantity. If bending follows, include the final part drawing and bend requirements rather than an unexplained flat shape. The Bystar 4020 listing gives a 4,000 × 2,000 mm format and thickness up to 10 mm; acceptance is confirmed for the specific material and geometry.

For tube: section, wall and positioning

Specify section shape, external dimensions, wall thickness, component length and opening positions. The LT651 listing names round, square, rectangular, oval and elliptical forms, a 120 mm maximum diameter, 6,500 mm loading and 3,000 mm unloading. These describe the published configuration rather than every possible combination of section, material and length.

When selection needs confirmation

Where several manufacturing routes seem possible, share the function and assembly requirements with the drawing. Ask for process and compatibility review rather than treating a catalogue dimension as a guarantee for every alloy. Website information starts the technical discussion and helps define a clear quotation.
